Thanks for alienating half your fans Warren. Your fundraising for Obama has made it impossible for me to support your band. When did you become a Socialist?
submitted by Brother Vince in New Jersey
On the contrary, I'm very impressed that he stood up to express his beliefs in spite of the risk of alienating fans. Thanks for supporting Obama, Warren!

I'm with you Vince. Obama wants to spread the wealth by taking from those that have been successful.
People that are excited about Obama need to stop, and think for a second. Under Obama its far more than likely that the company you work for is going to be paying higher taxes which means your chances are much higher that you'll lose your job. The increase in income tax isn't even the worst part. Obama's plan to increase FICA withholding (social security) is so harsh it will certainly cause employeer to eliminate workers in an effort to avoid this massive additional burden.
No economy has ever been improved by increasing taxes. Enjoy your $500 check Lisa. I wish you luck with keeping your job
What a bunch of BS. Jobs are already in jeopardy due to the Bush assault on the middle class. Having fewwer jobs and a lower standard of living like the worst tax increase imaginable.
I'm going to get hit with the Obama taxes more than anyone and I am hally about it. I can afford it. 95% of the country can't.
Get a grip. Stop being so greedy.

Everybody just needs to vote their conscience as best they can. It's time for the national pastime of arguing to stop already; believers need to pray, and let's try to get along with each other better and stop trying to convince everyone to see things our own way.
Let the music do the talking, and let the Mule be the Mule. Enjoy the cool fall breezes, y'all!

You call it arguing? Jeez. Simple debate. No more. And it shouldn't stop. Not during election season. Its healthy. Nobody is calling anyone names here BigMikey. I'm not trying to convince anyone to agree with me. I am simply stating the problems I see in Obama. If someone stops and thinks "Hmm. Yes. Thats right. Success shouldn't be punished." Great. If not. No problem.
I wasn't replying to you specifically, Jim. I had the overall national debate in mind.
I guess my main point is I'd to think that the Mule is more important than politics, and the music itself serves as a diversion from trying to keep up with who's right and who's wrong in Washington, DC. I guess it's gotten old for me, and I can't wait for it to be over and done.
I also wish Letterman would stop being so political as well. Let the comedy ensue, don't go off on Bush and the Repubs all the dang time.

Warren supporting Obama, no surprise, when I saw him last I was surprised to hear him call George Bush a killer, in his Neil Young song Cortez. After seeing Neil play in CSNY and hearing his peacnik songs, I have not been able to sell my current tickets I have to his outrageously priced show here. I luckily do not have that problem with Warren. I love yah Warren but keep the peacenik crap to yourself. Long live the free, thanks to the USA. Thanks coming from a Canadian that truly loves his neighbors and what they stand for. Cheers

If you're alienated by Warren's supporting Obama, or if you're upset by the "peacenik" stuff, then I think you may be happier listening to Toby Keith or something else as equally awful and blindly jingoistic. This kind of thing is inherent in the spirit of this type of music, and is evident in the songs Warren writes. Perhaps read some of the lyrics sometime, and you'll understand why he would support Obama. And by the way, this whole socialist thing is just ludicrous. Do yourself a favor and develop some thoughts of your own instead of spewing the nonsense Limbaugh and OReilly feed you. Taxes of any kind are inherently "spreading the wealth". If you want to call Obama socialist, then by your definition, so is Bush...only he would be a socialist benefiting the wealthy. The last time there was this big of a disparity between the wealthy and the middle class was 1929...right before the great depression. This is obviously not good for anyone...including the rich. Bush and the republicans have been systematically strangling the middle class, and without a healthy middle class, the entire economy tanks.

If anyone wanted to support Obama they should have supported his fundraising on their on time. What a disappointment Warren for all the money I have spent seeing your shows and getting you to your celebrity status. You could have put that money to so many more beeter uses. Never would have though you were such a sell out. You could have your freedom of speech without trying to make it your fans also. I'm sure Woody would be PROUD!!!!!!!!

Toolbox I am not the one promoting a fundraiser. So yes, when Warren has a concert that he takes my money, probably not even your money, and anyone else’s money that supports him-THE MULE and uses it to support his political beliefs, that is the problem. So tell me how I am the one trying to make the world think like me. What I think is all that matters, I'm not the one trying to get people to support my belief by listening to me. Yes Warren has gotten very far only because people belive in him. Supporting him and Obama are two diffent levels. Do I like the music or not, what a stupid question? The question is, " Why are toolboxes like you listening to it???????

Wow! I just fell upon this website and have just read these postings. What a sad batch of hate-mongering and narrow-mindedness!
Not only does Warren have the right to support whichever candidate he chooses, he also has the right to hold a fundraiser for whomever he chooses, just as he has the right to hold the Christmas Jam for Habitat, as he chooses. If you don't want to support his fundraiser, then stay home! Don't support it! But don't dog this man for giving of himself for something he believes in.
Division in this country is our worst enemy and there is no place for division in our love for the music of Mule and the music of Warren individually. Warren's songs reflect his beliefs. It is very clear through his music and his actions what he believes and what is important to him. Warren has brought many of us together and he deserves our respect. He has not done anything wrong and the dissent and ugly comments noted above are pathetic and indicative of the lines of hatred that plague our country.
I suggest to those who wrote such ugliness above that they go back and listen to the words in Warren's songs and think long and hard about their comments and attitudes. They are way out of line and you should be ashamed of yourselves for such petty hatred, anger and narrow-mindedness. We are faced with so many crises right now because of the greed and arrogance of Americans that we all need to take a long hard look in the mirror and face our own demons if we are to survive the many obstacles that face this nation and the world!
We must find common ground and join together in efforts to heal our country's wounds, not splinter in anger and hatred, causing our wounds to open and fester.
President Obama is now our President and I would suggest to all that they put their hatchets and hoes in the garage and support our new president. Give him a chance. I don't think that is too much to ask, especially if you really believe the themes in Warren's songs!!!
Long live Gov't Mule!!! : )

People of good will are often subjected to verbal attacks from those who call themselves patriotic. The most fervent "patriots" are usually anything but patriotic. They are power hungry. I believe Warren is a true patriot because his candidate wants the best for all including his political opponents. Thank you, Warren, for setting an example.

As someone who was in staunch opposition of President Obama throughout the election (but will always support a President faithfully holding office), I'd have to say Warren can do whatever he pleases with his money and his shows (assuming when he's with ABB and Mule they are all in agreement with whatever is being said/done).
Certain actions clearly will ostracize some fans, and rightly so. It is a heated battle (the election) and people have strong views on many fronts.
Public figures like Warren endorsing political figures is a weak attempt at showing support to one side in an already extremely polarized US community. We do not need people standing on a party platform. We need individual's expressing their beliefs and thoughts.
I think talented artists like Mr. Haynes have an amazing opportunity to voice their opinion through their music. They can do this in a way that transcends political parties. I think Warren does this almost all the time, which is part of the reason why I didn't care that he made any sort of political stance publicly.
Warren can evoke truly strong feelings through his musicianship, there really is no need for him or anyone at his musical level to discuss political "blips on the radar". His music and the themes and emotions involved are far more real. Warren's ability to captivate an audience is derived from the power in his music. If you've heard Patchwork Quilt live, you understand. Warren speaks through his music, let's listen to what he has to say...

*Edit: Certainly not down playing the state of affairs in our country as "blips on the radar". We have Congressmen, Senators, Judges, and local public servants that work tirelessly everyday to keep things in order. "Blips on the radar" is a reference to all the hoop-la everyone causes about one election every four years. Be passionate about the US, but true passion for your country is reflected in your everyday work far more than your ballot sheet.

Now that time has passed, do the people who posted here 6 months ago still feel the same? Have any changed their opinion?
Two points:
1) For those of you who found it distastefull that Warren would support O"Bama, listen to his songs on any recording really, Where's my mule? Try "About to rage" or "Silent Scream" on Deja Voodoo, and "Like flies" or Unring the Bell" on High and Mighty, perhaps you heard him say something like "I don't know if you hear about the shit that is going on but maybe you feel like I do. (Dallas) in a downloaded muletracks. Were you suprised that he would lean towards OBama or anyone in the democrat party? He has always been against the policies of President Bush. So when he does step up and in support of OBama, you feel it is time to turn away from his music?
2) If you are old enough to remember, did you disown the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd for their support of Jimmy Carter in the 1976 election? If you are too young, does it offend you that they played and supported an unpopular democrat candidate who eventually is labeled as one of the least effective presidents in modern times?
Regardless of party affiliation or political views, you should have seen this coming. If you didn't, open your eyes and ears to the things around you. It might be less painful when you decide to separate yourself from someone who did hold your esteem.

Yup, I still believe Warren has the right to do what he wants and support who he wants and believe what he believes. It is a free country and everyone has that right. You can say what you want too. So yeah, I still believe everything I said 9 months ago. I believe in Warren Haynes and love his music. So no I will not take my support away just cause he may do or believe something I won't or don't.
